Sony will unlock the feature as a beta for those who have signed up for the PlayStation Preview Program first soon, with a plan to unlock to all users early 2019. Additionally, there will be a charge of $9.99 for PlayStation Network users to change their ID. There will also be an added discount if the user has PlayStation Plus, making it $4.99.
Sony announced back in October it would provide the option for you to change your ID name on PS4. The feature went into testing not long after the announcement, with an early-2019 rollout planned once testing was completed.
Sony planning to bring PSN Name Change feature soon
PlayStation Network name change features have been a constant request by fans since the service first launched in 2006, and a survey obtained by Push Square suggests Sony is still investigating a potential solution.. The leaked questionnaire describes how the hypothetical PSN name change process would work in a question targeted at gauging user interest in the feature.
To be honest, though, this sounds like it's been a complex feature for Sony to implement. In the official press release, it writes: "This feature is compatible with PS4 games originally published after 1st April, 2018, and a large majority of the most-played PS4 games that were released before this date. However, please note not all games and applications for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita systems are guaranteed to support the online ID change, and users may occasionally encounter issues or errors in certain games." You'll be able to revert your username if you do face any bugs.
Wait. That compatibility thing sounds really confusing. So if I changed my name (not planning on it), would I be unable to play a game published before April 2018 or it would just show my old username on those games?
